MY SUSTAINED INVESTIGATION OF ‘22-‘23
This portfolio contains illustrations that follow along my written story, The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Each scene depicts a new element of the story, from character introductions to scene transitions. Throughout each piece, color is slowly transitioned across the color wheel, to signify the change in scenery from the war in the sky to the magical kingdom.
The story follows a sorcerer's apprentice and his journey in trying to restore the fallen goddess of healing, Nuae, before creatures of the underworld succeed in their overthrow of heaven. In this fantasy story, magic is central to the society and built into the culture of the world. So when it comes between giving up his magic and station in life to save the goddess, or potentially gaining power in the underworld's overthrow of heaven, the apprentice must make a choice that will change the makeup of his world for better or worse.
In a story that contains magic and fantastical elements, I wanted there to be a grounded message of sacrifice and identity that lets the reader connect and sympathize with the protagonist.
MY FIRST SUSTAINED INVESTIGATION
This investigation is about the effects of technology on humans, both positive and negative. I explore technology addiction, harmful marketing through media, glamorization of reality, and more, in an attempt to create discussion on the subject.
MY SECOND SUSTAINED INVESTIGATION
In this second investigation, I illustrate a research journal with notes of fantastical creatures from another world. The journal is created by my character, Via, an anthropologist and zoologist, who finds herself lost in this new world. She notes her findings, as well as detailed sketches of the creatures themselves.
